La Fiesta de los Vaqueros Tucson Rodeo
The Tucson Rodeo enlists over 650 contestants from the United States and Canada competing for more than $420,000 in prize money. This rodeo, the first major outdoor event on the PRCA schedule, gives visitors an opportunity to see real-life cowboys and cowgirls display their ability in the only sport in the world developed from work skills.
This year's rodeo continues through February 26, 2012.
Tucson Rodeo Parade
This 87 year old Tucson tradition is the largest single day event in Arizona.
Each year, more than 200,000 people enjoy the western-themed floats and buggies, historic horse-drawn coaches, festive Mexican folk dancers, marching bands and outfitted riders. The route begins at Park Avenue and Ajo Way, continues south to Irvington Road, then heads west on Irvington Road to South 6th Avenue.
Grandstands for viewing are located on Irvington at South 6th Avenue. Advanced tickets are required for Grandstand seating. Viewing along both sides of the route, which stretches just over a mile, is available at no charge.
The parade starts at 9 a.m., Thursday, February 23, 2012.
Blue Raven Gallery
"Crazy for Color!" A juried show of local artists in a variety of media: paintings, photography, sculptures, fabrics, pottery.
Runs from January 28 through March 24, 2012.
Tucson Open Studios
Every year several photographers open their studios to the public.
Tucson Open Studios is happening April 14 and 15, 2012.
Rillito Park Horse Racetrack
Want to take some fast action shots? If so, consider this historical Tucson event. You can almost feel the beating of hooves drum in your chest as you watch Quarter Horses or Thoroughbreds race around the 5/8 mile track in pursuit of the win.
Since 1988, Rillito Racetrack has been running during the cool months of the year. With the grandstand and clubhouse so close to the track, you can't help but feel as though you are part of the action. No matter where you are, you are never too far to hear them yell - "They're Off".
This year's racing season is from January 28 through March 25, 2012--Saturdays and Sundays only. Post Time 1:00 pm; Racing 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm. There is an entrance fee.
Tohono Chul Park
A great place to take interesting photos.
Wonderful themed gardens, nature trails, eclectic shops, art galleries, classes, creatures and a charming Tea Room. Named as one of the great botanical gardens of the world by Travel+Leisure.
Open daily from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. There is an entrance fee.
Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
Another wonderful place to capture great photos.
A world-renowned zoo, natural history museum and botanical garden, all
in one place! Exhibits re-create the natural landscape of the Sonoran
Desert Region so realistically you find yourself eye-to-eye with
mountain lions, prairie dogs, Gila monsters, and more. Within the Museum
grounds, you will see more than 300 animal species and 1,200 kinds of
plants. There are almost 2 miles of paths traversing 21 acres of
beautiful desert.
Open daily, year-round. There is an entrance fee.
